New Mixtape: Big K.R.I.T. – See Me On Top Vol. 4 [Stream x Download]

Big K.R.I.T. in preparation for the release of Cadillactica some time in November, has thrown together an actual mixtape for fans to teeth on for now.  The tape includes song snippets similar to what he did on K.R.I.T., remixes and features along with new original songs.  The movement of K.R.I.T. seems to be back under his wing which makes his  2nd shelf project very promising — well, that and…

Cosplay 101 – How To Do It With Fun [VIDEO] #BaltimoreComicCon2014

BmoreCon2014-7If you don’t attend the panels that you paid for when you purchased your convention tickets, you’re missing out on some awesome conversations, helpful tips, and nerd gasming information.  Since Cosplay is a pivotal part of comic cons, a session with help from some pretty spunky professionals was well worth the hour.  Lucid and Han are easily professional cosplayers.  They do all types of…

Steve Howard's Corner

The main reason i go to cons now is for the fan art.  Tons of imagination and personality go into pieces, and while most of the fan art is technically awing, the abstract pieces are what people tend to go after.  If you some how manage to stick Superman into a battle with Magneto in the middle of a Pokemon stadium, you might have a great sales day.  *I know want this piece!*

Check out some of the…

BmoreCon2014-3

I am not a comic book nerd.  A few years ago I didn’t know the difference between DC and Marvel.  I’m not a cosplayer.  I don’t collect action figures to place on shelves to display to people I welcome into my man-partment.   But I’ve been going to comic cons, game cons, and anime cons for the last 3 years.  BmoreCon2014-7Why?  Because cons are liberating.

It’s one of the only events I’ve ever been to as a freelancing photographer where there is no judgement, everyone is excited to be there and the weirder you are, the cooler you are.  The most outrageous costume can make you a celebrity for the weekend.  The most interesting panel can grow your youtube subscriptions and twitter followers.  The best prints can make you rich.  It’s an organized fantasy world that can become anyone’s reality for about $55 for a weekend pass.  And it’s well worth it.

But ultimately, for myself, the best part of these comic cons is the Monday after it’s over.  That’s when I get to go back through 100s of pictures and gawk at the creativity people put into their costumes.  I get to watch videos of panels from some of my favorite comic book creators like Mark Waid (Irredeemable) — whom I also got a chance to meet and inquire for a few minutes about the research that goes into his writing.  Even a sinus infection couldn’t stop me from attending the convention, purchasing a few prints, and sitting in on some panels for Boom! Studios, Cosplay 101, and Sexism in Comics.

If you missed it this year, hopefully the pictures below will convince you to attend next year.  BmoreCon2014-37Or maybe you can’t wait?  If you just can’t wait to experience a Comic Con, then act now because the 2nd biggest one of the year is right around the corner in the middle of October in NYC!

Till then, here are some awesome pictures with more videos about How to Cosplay to follow.

My First Listenings of My Brightest Diamond’s ‘This Is My Hand’… “A performance piece void of doubt”

My First Listenings of My Brightest Diamond’s ‘This Is My Hand’… “A performance piece void of doubt”

Shara Worden, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist front runner for the band My Brightest Diamond is an eclectic soul, to put it as simply as possible.  Her new album “This Is My Hand” is currently streaming on NPR First Listen, with such imagery that it begs to question “What if art house rock was a back rub”.  Every instrument is confident and exact.  Every note is a visceral stone in this…

MC Jin Back for a “Chinese New Year” [Audio]

Damn.  I completely forgot about the MC that had one dope beat from Ye back in the day on an album that just was not that good.  Jin was a hell of a spitter, battle rapper, etc.. back in the 02 – 06 era but after being signed to Ruff Ryders, releasing “The Rest is History”, and continuing only to battle rap he just disappeared.  Now he’s back and he’s letting us know where he’s been and where…

Vilma Takes Goodell to Task over Rice Video — “He should be held accountable for his lack of action”

Jonathan Vilma decided today was a day of Truth with these tweets about NFL Commissioner Roger Gotohell, I mean Goodell.

I know firsthand the commissioner will go to great lengths to “gather all evidence” but he purposely did not in this instance. Appalling.

— Jonathan Vilma (@JonVilma51) September 10, 2014

If the commissioner had really asked for the video, he would’ve made it very public & very…

Why Floyd Mayweather Gone Stay Ain’t Sh*t [VIDEO]… Defending Ray Rice

A few weeks ago, the whole world discovered something that Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) couldn’t wait to share with us.  Floyd Mayweather, the $100M boxer and business man was literately challenged.  Now, that’s not to say he can’t read, it’s just to say he can’t read to me because I ain’t got that much time to spare listening to a sentence turn into a prison sentence.  Either way, the social…
